Foldable phones are a solution for smartphones getting so massive, they need to be “handheld” again. Nothing, the British tech company beloved for its minimalist design, does the competition one better. Why not just make a tiny model that actually fits comfortably in your hand? In a April Fools’ Day prank, the brand offered a tongue-in-cheek response to Maxes, Ultras, and XLs in the form of the ‘Phone 2a Micro’.
Apple’s decision to discontinue the iPhone Mini line in late 2023 left a void in the market for those who appreciated a phone that was both powerful and compact. The Mini, launched in 2021, offered high-end specs in a smaller frame, but sales figures apparently didn’t meet expectations.
Nothing’s Phone 2a Micro took the concept of “mini” and ran with it. This fictional device was shrunk down to feature a miniscule screen and just one rear camera that the company dubs a “Fresh Eye”—because let’s face it, real estate is at a premium on a phone this small.
“What is this? A phone for ants?” Nothing joked in a social media post.
Luckily for the rest of us with normal-sized hands, the original Phone 2a—a budget variant of the Nothing Phone 2—boasts a comfortable 6.7-inch OLED display and not one, but two 50-megapixel rear cameras.
