Marvel Studios Announces Its First Interactive Film, Traversing To Mixed Reality

The Marvel multiverse is expanding… into mixed reality. Marvel Studios, alongside ILM Immersive, has announced What If...?: An Immersive Story, a first-of-its-kind project that rewrites the rules of storytelling by transforming the Apple Vision Pro into a portal to alternate realities within the MCU.
Building upon the imaginative What If...? animated series on Disney+, this hour-long adventure throws fans headfirst into a mixed-reality experience. This interactive story lets you become the hero. You’ll navigate a branching narrative, shaping your destiny alongside Multiversal variants of familiar faces, “[learning] the mystic art… [and] harnessing the power of the Infinity Stones,” explains Marvel.

“What If…?: An Immersive Story is the next evolution in how we tell our stories, where fans across generations can experience them and live out the adventure alongside their favorite heroes,” explains director and executive producer Dave Bushore.
“This experience kicks the door open to the Marvel Universe, and it’s a glimpse of what I’ve been waiting for my whole life.”

The animation “actually allows you to visit these strange new worlds, not as a Watcher but as an actual participant,” executive producer Brad Winderbaum further details. “The creative work on this project is nothing less than stellar and we could not be more excited for fans to interact firsthand with some of their favorite Marvel heroes.”

What If...?: An Immersive Story, the first interactive Disney+ Original story, will arrive on the streaming platform and will be exclusive to Apple’s “spatial computing” headset. Additional release details will be announced at a later date.
