Nothing CEO Carl Pei has turned what may seem like nothing into something up his sleeve. In a seemingly routine post on X (formerly Twitter), he showcased updates to the Nothing OS interface and asked for feedback. But one glance at the images has sent eagle-eyed tech enthusiasts into overdrive.
The device featured is speculated to be the upcoming Nothing Phone 3, as indicated in the conspicuous fourth button on the right side. This breaks away from the three-button layout of older Nothing models.

Talk is rife that it could be a customizable shortcut button, similar to whispers surrounding Apple’s yet-to-be-released iPhone 16.

The iPhone 16 series, on the other hand, is purported to introduce an ‘Action’ button designed to perform multiple functions, potentially serving as a camera shutter or launch button. It could also offer various customizable actions, possibly integrating with artificial intelligence features in the next iOS update. Nothing might be exploring similar versatility with its mysterious fourth button.
Elsewhere, it’s suggested that the Nothing Phone 3 will be powered by a formidable Snapdragon 8-series chip. Enhancements to the distinctive Glyph LED lights and an overall improved user experience are also anticipated.
Anybody notice the extra button on the device used in these images?
