IKEA is keeping true to its commitment of brightening homes—literally. In a brilliant outdoor stunt, the Swedish furniture giant has installed a reflective billboard that brings sunlight to shady spots at cafés.
Instead of spending big bucks on the move, the Sun Billboard’s creators, Åkestam Holst NoA in collaboration with Havells and Ocean Outdoor, dug out an existing product from IKEA’s catalog: the NISSEDAL mirror—reflecting the company’s prowess at creating all sorts of home solutions.

Here, the mirror is controlled by a GPS motor that adjusts its angle in real time based on the sun’s position. As the hot star moves across the sky, the NISSEDAL product projects natural sunlight onto outdoor seating areas that would otherwise be in the shade. Customers can now enjoy their lattes or pastries while bathed in the sun’s warm illumination, thanks to the ingenious billboard.
The campaign debuted at select Stockholm cafés, with plans to expand throughout the summer.
