If you claim to be an expert authority of something, you’d better have the goods to show for it. As for the r/Graphic_Design community, it recently found itself in a hilarious tailspin over its subreddit’s off-kilter logo.
It all started with a casual critique of the existing logo, an unassuming “Gd” with some slashes. A user, however, found it jarring and said it was “plain awful.” This prompted the original creator, who explained that the existing work only took about 20 minutes to create, to welcome design enthusiasts to “make a cooler one.” And so, the floodgates opened, sparking works that just “pop.”
Papyrus and Comic Sans, the internet’s most notorious typefaces, made obligatory appearances, of course. Microsoft Paint-esque abominations, too, danced merrily in the logo parade.
Reflecting the current creative landscape, AI-generated logos also joined the fray. One particularly inspired entry channeled the aesthetic of Charli XCX’s Brat marketing, complete with a low-res green background—a style ironically adopted by the Kamala Harris campaign.
Amid the chaos, some users found unexpected beauty in the original logo’s flawed simplicity. One commenter even stated it was “perfect because its pisses designers off.”
