Instagram has orchestrated a nostalgic comeback of sorts—its latest feature lets you add a song to your profile, a nod to the early days of social media when platforms like MySpace allowed users to showcase their favorite tunes. Announced by Meta, this new update for the Instagram mobile app gives users a way to express their lives melodiously, adding a personal soundtrack to their profiles.
Pop superstar Sabrina Carpenter has had a first sip of the feature. The Espresso singer has used it to share a sneak peek of her new single, Taste, from her upcoming album Short n' Sweet, which drops on Friday. Fans can head to her profile for an exclusive first listen.
For everyone else, adding a song is simple. If you already have the feature, you can head to your profile, tap ‘edit profile’, and select the new ‘Music’ option. From there, you can search for a song or artist and choose a 30-second clip to feature on their profile. This snippet will sit below your bio, offering a musical introduction for anyone who visits.
Luckily, unlike on MySpace, the song won’t assault visitors’ ears with an automatic play—they’ll need to tap the play button to hear it.
