Is this the Inside Out of fonts? Jessica Walsh, the renowned creative director behind &Walsh, is getting in touch with her emotions—through typography, and her new font foundry, Type of Feeling.
Type of Feeling is a veritable emotion machine, home to typefaces that don’t just look pretty on a website or paper bag but tug at the heartstrings too. From the joyous bounces of a happy font like ‘Jubel’ to the melancholic depth of a wistful one like ‘Onsra’, these typefaces are designed to make you feel something, and perhaps even find the right words.
The inspiration for Type of Feeling came during the pandemic when Walsh and her team, including her sister Lauren Walsh, were looking for new creative outlets to keep their studio, &Walsh, fully engaged. With a studio full of custom type gathering dust from previous projects and a team they were determined to keep employed, they decided to turn lemons into typographically pleasing lemonade.
Launching with seven distinct, initial typefaces, Type of Feeling plans to expand its collection, offering both retail and bespoke options that properly spell out the emotional resonance of typography.
It’s not just about how a font looks anymore; it’s about how it makes you feel.
