Apple has hit pause on rolling out the new iPadOS 18 software for M4 iPad Pro models following complaints from users who found their devices being downgraded pretty much into paperweights.
iPad owners have lamented about their devices being “bricked” during the installation process of the newest update, released on September 16, causing their tablets to become unresponsive and impossible to turn back on. Some of those affected have had to go through the hassle of seeking complete replacements for their tablets.
The update introduces Apple Intelligence, combining generative models with personal context to offer users personalized insights. iPadOS 18 also includes a redesigned Photos app, new options for customizing the Home Screen and Control Center, and enhanced handwriting tools like Smart Script, which smooths out handwritten text in real-time.
Unfortunately, for some owners of the M4 iPad Pro, these features remain out of reach due to installation issues.
The company has now pulled the update to investigate the cause of the glitch. Not all M4 iPad Pro users are affected, and the issue seems tied to interruptions during the installation process. In the meantime, the tech giant has advised users to avoid updating their devices until a fix is released.
For those who haven’t updated yet, it’s best to stay patient and wait for the all-clear.
