Google Reworks Controversial Search Design After Receiving Backlash From Users

Google responds to the backlash over the small icons, or favicons placement in the search results. Google’s inclusion of favicons placed on the left of each search result appears to be similar to the bolded ‘Ad’ label under Google’s sponsored listings.
This makes it confusing for viewers to differentiate the from advertisements to regular search results. Now, Google has announced on Twitter that it will be “experimenting” with its desktop search redesign.
Last year, our search results on mobile gained a new look. That’s now rolling out to desktop results this week, presenting site domain names and brand icons prominently, along with a bolded “Ad” label for ads. Here’s a mockup: pic.twitter.com/aM9UAbSKtv

“Our early tests of the design for desktop were positive,” the company wrote. “But we appreciate the feedback, the trust people place in Google, and we’re dedicating to improving the experience.”
Google has now removed favicons from its desktop searches, but the company claims to be testing its page design over the next few weeks.
