KFC & Pizza Hut Debut ‘Contactless Delivery’ To Avoid Coronavirus

Streets of China have been hauntingly vacant as the coronavirus outbreak persists, so it is by no surprise that more residents are ordering their meals indoors.
To cope with the pandemic, KFC and Pizza Hut—both owned by Yum China—have launched contactless delivery services for customers in China who wish to have food sent to their doorsteps.
A statement released on their social media accounts explains that the “contactless delivery” option involves personnel delivering hot meals to customers from a distance.
Couriers will first wait for customers to show up before removing the hot food out of their carriers and placing them on the location agreed upon by both parties.
The employees will then step back by at least 10 feet and verify that the customers have picked up their food.
This way, there will be no person-to-person contact and the meals don’t get cold, Business Insider details.
Delivery personnel are also required to put on face masks and disinfect their hands and delivery boxes after every delivery.
In addition to contactless delivery, the restaurants now offer a weekly contactless in-store collection option, allowing patrons to pick up their orders from designated racks. Whether customers are dining in or having their food to-go, the meals will be in takeout packaging to prevent the food from being exposed to potential viruses.
“The health and wellbeing of our employees and customers is our top priority,” Yum China says in a statement obtained by Business Insider, furthering that the system could help “reduce the risk of person-to-person transmission of the coronavirus.”
The Centers for Disease Control describes that person-to-permission transmission of the deadly virus typically occurs when an infected person coughs and sneezes in close contact, or under six feet of distance away, from another person.
