Chinese Citizens Confined At Home Invent Creative Ways To Entertain Themselves

Chinese citizens are staying indoors as an attempt to fend off the mysterious new coronavirus, but instead of lamenting over their predicament, some have decided to find their own uniques ways to amuse themselves in the meantime.
As reported by the Associated Press, one mother recreated a famous game—often played outdoors during Chinese New Year celebrations—in her home. In a video shared online, the woman is seen pretending to be a street vendor selling hoops cut out from cardboard paper, which her children use to toss and win prizes laid on the floor.
University student Wei Zikai’s spring semester has been delayed due to the crisis, so he set up a badminton court in his living room to pass the time.
Another woman who goes by Liang Jinjin took it upon herself to create a series of videos of her enjoying the simulated outdoors in the comfort of her home. In one of her clips, she sips at a coconut against the TV screen, which flashes an animation of the beach. She also attempted to build a mini snowman with the ice from her freezer in another video.
Earlier this week, a video surfaced online showing residents from high-rise buildings in Wuhan bonding with each other behind their windows as they sang the national anthem and other uplifting songs. The anthem, which goes by “Qilai, qilai, qilai!” or “Rise up, rise up, rise up!” reverberated in the dead of the night.
The outbreak has affected over 7,000 people in China, with more than 100 deaths linked to the virus.
