The Killers Frontman Debunks Viral ‘Mr Brightside’ Clip, Then Washes Hands To It

A video of those quarantined in Italy belting out The Killers’ Mr. Brightside from their balconies went viral on Twitter, prompting the band’s Twitter account to deny its authenticity.
“This isn’t real,” the band’s account wrote in response to the viral clip. “But this is,” the account captioned a follow-up post featuring the band’s frontman, Brandon Flowers, singing the iconic song while washing his hands in a video.
Another famous rendition of the doctored clip depicts neighbors singing Rihanna’s Bitch Better Have My Money.
The original video was shared by Leonardo Carella, an Italian doctoral candidate at Oxford, who revealed Italians in the city of Turin doing the Macarena from their balconies. Carella also posted several other videos of people playing music from their homes in various cities including Naples, Siena, and Florence during Italy’s coronavirus lockdown.
Earlier this month, social media users began sharing lyrics from their favorite songs to be used in the 20-second hand-washing routine. One of them included the chorus of Mr. Brightside, and now, Flowers has demonstrated the hand-washing process for himself in his latest video.
