Five months after the novel coronavirus outbreak was declared a global pandemic, some people are still heavily reluctant to put on face coverings, perhaps yearning for a smidge of normalcy. Sadly, “normal” isn’t possible without taking the right steps to get there.

By now, a lot of people would give almost anything to be able to go on vacations, attend concerts, or even fulfill something as simple as having a coffee with friends. Being able to do any of these things like back in the day will surely take a while, but they will also only require one small sacrifice from members of the public: mask up.

Striking posters by renowned Israel-born, London-based graphic designer Noma Bar for health marketing company McCann Health New York and cold and flu medicine brand Mucinex have gripped the hearts of internet users. Reprising his iconic ability to incorporate optical illusions into double-meaning graphics, Bar’s new commissioned work for World Mask Week features face masks as a necessary asset to be able to go to the hairdresser’s, get a cup of coffee, return to the office, go on a cruise vacation, and more.

“Back to normal is up to you,” the six posters read, along with the subtitle, “Wear a mask.”

The illustrations were made viral after author and puzzle constructor Eric Berlin tweeted them.

He also shared a campaign that Bar had worked on previously with McCann Health New York in response to new work-from-home norms. Here, the public is encouraged to be heroes by being “boring,” as “staying in isn’t exciting, but it saves lives.”
