Gmail Hints At Intriguing Logo Redesign That Sends Off The Envelope Icon

After revamping its Maps and Photos icons, Google appears to be writing off the envelope symbol for an upcoming Gmail logo redesign.
Teasing what has been up its sleeve lately, Google sent the backbone for the new Gmail logo, which you can view here, to dedicated news site 9to5Google. It’s an early sketch, but noteworthy anyhow—the envelope encasing the monogram is now gone, at least in the explicit sense.
As reported by 9to5Google, the envelope’s shape is now “implied” by the new whitespace on top and the angles in the middle. The icon’s overall look is now more rounded, likely in a bid to adapt to Google’s new design language.
While Google only shared a black-and-white version of the logo, it can be assumed that the symbol will also depart from the original red and white color scheme. This is because the company’s other services all embody a four-color palette of blue, green, red, and yellow.
