Zara Is Retailing A ‘Turtleneck Scarf’ And Shoppers Have So Many Questions

Zara has combined two classic silhouettes designed to keep people warm into one article of clothing—and yet, customers feel it’s a little bare.
The fashion retailer has once again captured the internet’s attention with its sale of a US$29.90 ‘Turtleneck Sleeve Scarf’ that looks just as confusing as it sounds. Essentially, it’s a turtleneck sweater with long balloon sleeves and its torso portion cut out.
The look made its rounds after shopper Abigail Barr spotted the garment at Zara’s Hudson Yards store in NYC and snapped a photo of it out of bafflement. “Hey, is Zara okay?” she later tweeted.
Social media users were equally perturbed. “Is this for a horse?” one asked. Others couldn’t fathom paying US$30 for what appears to be an incomplete sweater.
Barr shared with Insider that she knew the scarf was a layering piece, but its display at the store amused her.
Many also defended that the garment would look rather chic when styled properly, and influencers who own the scarf have proven this to be true.
On a more positive note, Zara was pretty gentle on the environment when producing the turtleneck-scarf hybrid. The piece is made from fibers of wood sourced from “sustainably-managed forests with controlled tree growth,” as well as manufactured in facilities that adhere to the European Union’s Best Available Techniques environmental standards.
