Apple’s 1980s Macintosh Plus Envisioned With LEGO Will Reboot Your Inner Geek

If you loved LEGO’s geeky NES replica with an interactive Super Mario Bros. screen, here’s a throwback kit to sit on your main desk. The Robin84 Tech Inc has constructed an impressive Macintosh Plus LEGO set modeled after Apple’s 1986 home computer, and you could say the Apple truly doesn’t fall far from the tree.

Built in a 1:1 scale to the upgraded Macintosh, the LEGO build comes with plastic-brick reproductions of the device’s M0110A keyboard, M0100 computer mouse, and even a floppy disk.

Or the “save button,” as today’s tech-savvy generation would call it.

Its blank display can be “switched on” by inserting one of three fun interchangeable screens. When one display is in use, the others can be slotted into the back of the retro Mac replica like floppy disks.

For full effect, the computer and accessories adorn the nostalgic rainbow Apple logo and the ‘Macintosh Plus’ wordmark.

The design was put up on the LEGO Ideas portal, where fans can submit suggestions for the company’s consideration about future sets. With enough demand, LEGO will mass-produce conceptual kits and turn them into real products. The brand most recently kept true to its word by confirming a 3D set of Vincent Van Gogh and his Starry Night painting.

And by the looks of it, the platinum Macintosh Plus model could be well on track to becoming an actual set. Driven by a promising number of technophilic supporters who want it built, LEGO has pushed back the submission’s expiry date so that the Macintosh Plus set can potentially accumulate enough votes for it to be brought to shelves.
