Virgin Galactic Debuts First Human Spaceflight, Proves Space Tourism Is Possible

Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson’s space venture, has completed the first successful spaceflight of its VSS Unity spaceship with humans onboard.
Not only does this feat put Virgin Galactic on par with Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, but it also highlights the very real possibility of space travel in the near future.
At its highest point, the VSS Unity reached a height of over 55 miles before gliding smoothly onto the runway landing.
The team onboard had also fulfilled a number of test objectives during the flight, such as carrying out scientific research experiments as part of NASA’s Flight Opportunities Program.
“Today’s flight showcased the inherent elegance and safety of our spaceflight system, while marking a major step forward… Space travel is a bold and adventurous endeavor, and I am incredibly proud of our talented team of making the dream of private space travel a reality,” said Michael Colglazier, CEO of Virgin Galactic.
If you’re gearing up for space travel, a seat on Virgin Galactic’s spaceship could set you back a whopping US$250,000. Recently, the firm has started accepting US$1,000 deposits for a future ticket.
Chances are, the earliest flights will only take place sometime next year, so despite the hefty price point, you’ll still have to wait your turn.
