Amazon Rolls Out Alexa Soap Dispenser That Can Play Music To Time Handwashing

Handwashing has shot to the top of our radars as one of the most important things that life has to offer, all thanks to the pandemic. The CDC recommends that 20 seconds will do the job, so Amazon has decided to make counting those seconds even easier with its quietly released Smart Soap Dispenser.
After a precisely calculated amount of soap is released when users’ hands are placed near the sensor, a 20-second LED timer on the top of the fully contactless dispenser kicks in, counting down the seconds of scrubbing time.
When paired with an Echo speaker, the dispenser can be found in the Alexa app, then used as a trigger for any Alexa routine. Plus, the dispenser itself can be used to activate the task every time it’s being used.
With regimes comes a whole new world of possibilities: from playing a jingle to encourage kids to wash their hands for the full 20 seconds, to programming smart lights in the room to switch themselves off a while after the handwashing countdown stops. Or you could just chat to Alexa; ask how its day is going. The power lies entirely in your hands.
The Smart Soap Dispenser is powered by a rechargeable battery that lasts up to three months on a single charge, and can be filled with 12oz of liquid hand soap, but note that it doesn’t work with foaming soap or hand sanitizer.
Priced at US$54.99, the device currently looks to be sold out on preorders via Amazon’s website. With its success, though, it’s sure to come back in stock.
