Apple To Add Powerful New Camera Updates In iPhone 13, Like Video Portrait Mode

A new report has emerged regarding Apple’s highly-anticipated iPhone 13, claiming the upcoming lineup will feature at least three major camera and video recording updates. Previously, it was revealed that the iPhone 13 series would come with notch and speaker tweaks.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who has built a reputation for reliable Apple leaks, said the company plans to introduce a video version of its famed Portrait Mode feature, which would be one of the biggest updates to the smartphone’s video recording functions in years. The new feature will reportedly be named ‘Cinematic Video’, and will use the smartphone’s depth sensor to create a more dramatic out-of-focus blur or bokeh.
Alongside the Portrait Mode-like video feature, Gurman said that Apple would also add ProRes video recording support, and a new filter system to its photo editing suite. Apple ProRes is a video format favored by professionals, and the company is seemingly finally bringing it to the iPhone. This would allow users to record videos with more data, giving editors more to work with in post-production.
The new filter system could expand on the current ones that come pre-set with the smartphone. According to Gurman, the new versions would be less flat (à la the original Instagram overlays) and might instead be designed to use artificial intelligence to edit images more naturally.
While there have been rumors regarding the size of the camera modules, the report said any changes to the look of the cameras would be subtle, with most of the updates coming through software enhancements.
In another leak from last month, tech reviewer Marques Brownlee revealed iPhone 13 dummy models that looked similar to the current iPhone 12 lineup, with minor differences in the camera modules.
