Banksy Went On A ‘Great British Spraycation’ And Created Art In Broad Daylight

After a series of works reminiscent of the style of famously anonymous graffiti artist Banksy sprung up in England last week, the artist’s confirmation and claiming of the pieces was eagerly awaited; and that affirmation has come.
Hidden in plain sight and creating his art in broad daylight, then making a getaway in an inconspicuous, plain RV, that’s certainly a new way to spend a summer staycation.
In a delightful short video posted to Instagram, Banksy details his “Great British Spraycation” along the Norfolk and Suffolk coast, leaving his mark firmly behind. Most of his murals are lighthearted depictions, such as a crab safeguarding some empty shells, holding up a sign declaring “luxury rentals only”.

There’s also the statue in King’s Lynn, which has been given an ice cream and a pink tongue to perhaps deal with the British summertime heat a little better. In addition, a claw machine grabber waits above a bench, and a little model house now has Banksy’s name splashed across it.

A lot of Banksy’s art comprises works created with the aim of raising awareness for important global issues such as climate change or politics. However, it seems like this series incorporates more imagery based on playful, summer-centric time—perhaps what we all need after the last year and a half of dealing with the pandemic.
It’s always nice to stroll along the beach and see a reclining rat sipping on a cocktail, embodying the very spirit of a carefree summer, after all.

And a reminder rings out in the mural of three children, cleverly using a small, discarded boat near the wall as a part of the setting: “we’re all in the same boat.”
“We are beyond excited that all the recent artworks have been confirmed to be by Banksy, one of the world’s greatest artists,” a spokesperson from the East Suffolk Council is reported to have told North Norfolk News. “This is a real boost for Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and East Suffolk and we are thrilled Banksy has chosen our area for his Great British Spraycation.”
