Apple Was Exploring An iPhone Nano, Leaked Steve Jobs Email Shows

A newly uncovered email by Apple founder Steve Jobs confirms that the tech giant had once considered making an “iPhone Nano,” which would have been a “low-cost iPhone model based on [the] iPod Touch.”
The correspondence, which was sent in October 2010, was revealed in the ongoing lawsuit saga between Apple and Fortnite creator Epic Games. According to Input, the email was an agenda for a strategy meeting, and had included a bulletpoint titled “iPhone Nano Plan.”
Within the notes was a sub-section for “cost goal,” which suggested that executives attending the meeting would be discussing the price point of this “iPhone Nano.” Another sub-bullet had “show model (and/or renderings) – Jony” written, suggesting that the company’s former design chief, Jony Ive, would’ve been presenting designs for the smartphone.
If you’ve followed Apple’s launches since the days of the iPod, you’d have noticed that it no longer uses “nano” to brand its products, instead replacing it with the “mini” instead, such as the iPad Mini and iPhone 12 Mini.
While an iPhone Nano certainly would’ve been revolutionary at the time, Apple’s current iPhone 12 lineup has shown that smaller phones aren’t the most popular.
Sales figures of the iPhone 12 Mini have reportedly been poor, especially with its shorter battery life and lack of readability when compared with the regular iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro Max.
