‘Fortnite’ Gets Back At App Store Removal With Cheeky Apple-Inspired Packages

Video game developer Epic Games is still salty at Apple for removing its undisputedly popular game Fortnite from the App Store, and has decided to get back at the tech giant by sending out Apple-themed goodies asking to “free Fortnite.”
The game was taken down from the App Store in August—and later on, from the Google’s Play Store—after Epic Games updated Fortnite from its own server, hence evading Apple’s evaluations. It also offered discounts for its in-game currency to players who made payments outside of the app.
After getting its account terminated from Apple for violating App Store guidelines, Fortnite launched a ‘Free Fortnite’ campaign to fight its way back onto the Apple and Google stores. Its latest move involves the delivery of press kits bearing an uncanny resemblance to Apple’s branding during its Macintosh days to influencers so they can “spread the word.”
The box features a jacket with the game’s ‘loot llama’ washed in the colors of Apple’s old rainbow logo. The graphic is accompanied by the text “Free Fortnite” in a vintage serif.
The recipients, who included Greg Miller of YouTube channel Kinda Funny Games, certainly struck gold from the loot. The package includes a Samsung Galaxy Tab S7—a rival to Apple’s iPads—as a reminder that even if Fortnite isn’t downloadable from the App Store or Play Store, you can still install it from the Samsung Galaxy Store.
