WhatsApp’s Reportedly Testing New Auto-Delete Message Options: 24 Hours, 90 Days

In version 2.21.17.16 of the WhatsApp beta update, it has been revealed that the messaging platform is trialing an option for messages sent to be automatically deleted after a 90-day period.
Recent updates saw WhatsApp add a feature which allowed disappearing messages, where users could easily set a specific chat to self-destruct at intervals.
In its current state, the app will delete messages every 7 days if enabled. But now there are also rumors that it’s started working on a 24-hour option, too.
View-once photos and videos have also been recently added to the beta, heralding improvements for sensitive content within chats. The different lengths of message availability suggest that the app is aiming to cater to as many users and circumstances as possible.
The testing of these time periods may also finally see the app boosted to the next level in terms of user privacy, joining the ranks of Telegram and perhaps even Snapchat.
The feature, reported by WABetaInfo, isn’t live yet. The 24-hour option isn’t either, as tested by Android Police. Both still look to be in extremely early testing stages, given how even beta hasn’t officially seen them yet.
