New Cadillacs might soon look unfamiliar from afar. In line with its mission to introduce electric vehicles, the luxury automaker has debuted a minimalist black and white logo design.
Setting its distinguishable colors of yellow, red, and chrome free, Cadillac has adopted a monochromatic look, marking the latest of car rebrands unrolled to resemble less like fuel-guzzling monsters. In its attempt, the emblem appears more modern and less Art Deco, but whether this is an improvement to automotive fanatics is debatable.
The first Cadillac model poised to bear the new logo is, of course, an EV. The upcoming Lyriq will swap out the iconically colorful badge for the monochromatic update, and the automaker has already teased the look on a prototype, as well as branding assets, featured on its online channels.
It’s already Cadillac’s second visual identity simplification in fairly recent years. Jalopnik notes that, back in 2014, the company got rid of elements like laurel wreaths and crowns to let its colors shine. Now, as an expression for sustainability, those hues have been dialed all the way back.

However, the beloved color scheme still has some good years left before finally bidding farewell to the world. With Cadillac envisioning fully going electric in 2030, it would take nearly a decade before the “electric” monochromatic crest phases into its fleet of vehicles.
A spokesperson toldFox News Auto that forthcoming combustion cars will sport the colored badge, since the new logo represents its electric foray.
