BMW To End Fossil Fuel Production At Its Main Site

At a recent conference, BMW announced it would stop manufacturing internal combustion engines at its main production plant in Munich by 2024. Additionally, by 2023, at least 50% of the vehicles produced at the plant will be either battery electric or plug-in hybrid models.
The automaker has been ramping up innovation in the electric vehicle spaces, including a 100% recyclable car concept and a foldable cargo tricycle.
CEO Oliver Zipse said the company is even prepared to release an all-electric model should any country be the first to completely ban internal combustion engines, as per Reuters.
According to Interesting Engineering, the company is fully committed to reducing the use of fossil fuels, be it in its engines or otherwise. It hopes that at least 50% of its global car sales will be electric by 2030 and will also be implementing new measures to decrease carbon emissions at its plants worldwide.
For example, BMW plans plans to reduce the use of carbon-emitting vehicles in exchange for battery-powered trucks to transport goods around the plants.
These measures from one of the world’s largest carmakers is definitely a step in the right direction, although there’s still tons to be done before electric vehicles become viable options for most of the world’s population.
