BMW Teases Cargo Tricycle, Foldable E-Scooter Concepts For Loading & Commutes

As automakers lighten their carbon footprint, BMW is also dreaming up ways to make transportation accessible yet eco-friendly. The German luxury car company has unveiled two conceptual urban mobility models designed for different purposes.
The first, ‘Dynamic Cargo’, is a three-wheeled motorized “bicycle” (it’s a tricycle) designed to transport luggage and/or children. Unlike the usual cargo bikes, which tend to be larger and heavier than bicycles, the trike promises agility and convenience through a front frame that’s connected to a rear area via a central pivot, “thus helping it tilt when cornering and improving overall handling and agility,” BMW details in a blog post.

The model is powered by an electrified powertrain that gets booted up through simple pedal motion, replicating the experience of riding a regular two-wheeler.

The other spec design, the ‘Clever Commute’, is a flexible and modular e-scooter that can be folded to be taken around public transport, at no cost, or packed in car trunks. Meant as a “last-mile” option for multimodal trips, its footboard conveniently folds up at the sides, while a smaller wheelbase lets riders carry the e-scooter up elevator ladders with ease. The integral hub motor gives an electric impulse that pushes the e-scooter up ramps.

Both concepts are envisioned with an overall electric range of 12 miles, along with detachable battery packs to be easily recharged at home.
It all sounds good, but BMW insists it has no current plans to make these urban mobility solutions a reality. However, it says it is already in licensing discussions with some businesses “for a future serial production.”
