Apple Opens App Store For Developers To Promote In-App Events

Apple’s App Store is set to be a lot less exclusive, perhaps following its whole saga with Epic Games recently. Recently, it began to allow developers to include in-app links to their own websites.

One of the moves it’s making includes opening its interface for developers to broadcast their own in-app events, which was a feature first mentioned at this year’s WWDC.

Previously, content on the App Store has been largely curated and put out by Apple itself. Now, on iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, the new content will see third-party apps announcing time-limited events like seasonal competitions, livestreams, announcements, and so on.

This will allow developers to reach new users while keeping their current ones informed. If, for whatever reason, someone has deleted the app in the past, it could also be a great way to bring them back on board.

A small event card will highlight the most basic information, like the name of the event and a short description. Then, event pages, besides displaying information about the app and event, will provide customers with an “immersive experience” with more information about it when opened.

This can be shared in Messages or across social media if the user wishes, and the app can also be installed straight from the page.

Some examples of event badges that developers can put on the event cards, which sort of work in the same way as categories, include challenges, competitions, new seasons, premiers, or a major update.

Apple has laid out a ton of guidelines for this new feature, explaining all the best ways to use it. If you’re interested, you can have a browse here.
