Photoshop To Introduce ‘Prepare As NFT’ Option So Creators Can Easily Mint Work

This week, Adobe announced a plethora of stunning new features coming to some of its software, including Content Credentials: a way to ensure that content can be attributed and traced back to its creators as part of the Content Authenticity initiative.
That’s not all, though; the brand still has some exciting updates to add to the Creative Cloud apps we know and love. Recently, chief product officer Scott Belsky revealed that there are plans in place to allow creators to create non-fungible tokens (NFTs) straight from Photoshop.
In a podcast interview with The Verge’s Nillay Patel, Belsky explained that the new tool would allow users to build upon the recently released functions, adding credentials to their images so that markets such as OpenSea can read its metadata to verify its authenticity.
He also states that the NFT marketplaces that Adobe has been communicating with on the topic are “very excited” about it, since this has always been a tricky area for everyone involved: “everyone’s right-clicking and minting other cool stuff,” with no solid way to tell if something was plagiarized.
“Prepare as NFT,” Belsky details, is a new function that will “assist” the user in exporting and packaging it as they would a PNG or JPEG. There are no changes to the original Photoshop format. Instead, “the cryptographic signature points to an Inter-Planetary File System (IPFS)-powered system that shows you the attribution data.”
This is further described as a “decentralized storage source” built on an open-source framework, which means that anyone can “cryptographically” sign anything with the tool that’s used to make it.
While this means that the technology isn’t exclusive to Adobe, Belsky is insistent that it’s all good.
“We don’t want this to be anything that is proprietary to Adobe or part of one of our formats, that would negate the purpose.”
NFTs saw an explosion of success this year, with notable growth especially over the summer. But unlike many other trends, it appears that this one will be here to stay for quite some time.
Tying into this tool is the ability to link crypto wallet addresses to images in the desktop version of Photoshop. Users will then be able to verify an artwork’s ownership by having it checked on verify.contentauthenticity.org.
Other innovative new features Adobe revealed at the MAX 2021 event include Photoshop and Illustrator coming to web for everyone to use, amazing new selection tools, and AI turning stills into moving image.
