Uber Eats Completes First Delivery To Space, Changing Up Boring Astronaut Food

In recent years, we’ve gotten used to whipping out our mobile phones and tapping on a few buttons before Uber Eats shows up with food at our door. But for the astronauts aboard the International Space Station, ordering in their favorite pizza from down the street isn’t a feasible option.
Nevertheless, Uber Eats has made its first food delivery to space—though it didn’t simply send a driver to pick up the food and head to the destination via GPS. According to CNET, the company sought the help of Japanese entrepreneur Yusaku Maezawa, who was visiting the ISS on a space tourism trip.
On his arrival at the space station, Maezawa delivered Uber Eats’ brown paper bag filled with a variety of ready-to-eat canned Japanese foods for the crew.
The billionaire had hitched a ride on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, his first trip to space before he hops aboard a SpaceX mission to fly around the moon in 2023.
“With dishes including boiled mackerel in miso, beef bowl cooked in sweet sauce, simmered chicken with bamboo shoots, and braised pork, Uber Eats and Maezawa treated the astronauts to a delicious meal that was a welcome back from standard space food,” said Uber.
