If you’ve been hiding your cables behind your television, you’ll need to find another solution for them when you get your new LG OLED display.
Ahead of CES 2022, the South Korean tech giant has been rethinking the notion of displays at home, coming up with ideas like a partially-covered television to create modern art and a tall, dual monitor with double the view and height. The latest in its lineup of TVs that don’t look like TVs? Transparent OLEDs.
Granted, LG has been flaunting transparent televisions for a while now, previously touting them as smart social distancing partitions. Plus, these displays have been in shopping malls and museums since 2019, reports Mashable. On CES 2022, though, the brand will showcase more applications for the see-through screens.
While LG says the transparent OLED televisions can be installed in homes, its new visions also picture them in stores, offices, and galleries.
The first, the ‘Shopping Management Showcase’ (shown above), serves to make product displays more dynamic with floating imagery and descriptions, in a bid to catch shoppers’ gaze.
An ‘OLED Shelf’, built with two screens, enables the user to, say, watch shows in one display while showcasing art in the other. At the same time, the layer adds “a touch of elegance as it is hanging off from the shelf on the wall.”
Finally, ‘Smart Windows’ could be installed over windows in corporate settings, instead of dedicating a large portion of the wall to mount a screen. This not only saves space but also introduces “a sense of openness to the workplace.”
While these won’t be for sale, at least for now, LG says it could help interested businesses implement the concepts. More details are likely to be revealed at its CES 2022 showcase.
