Twitter Now Lets You Verify (& Show Off) NFT Ownership As Hexagonal Profile Pics

Twitter has recently rolled out a brand new feature that will allow owners of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to use their digital assets as profile pictures, with the verified purchases being displayed in a special hexagonal avatar.

Subscribers to the platform’s paid service will be able to link their digital wallets to their account, allowing the site to verify that they own a particular NFT.

When other users click on their avatars, they’ll get to learn more about the artwork, including its creator and the blockchain it’s listed on. 

According to CNN, this new feature makes Twitter one of the first large-scale social media platforms to readily embrace the growing trend of digital art. 

Many cryptocurrency enthusiasts use the platform to discuss NFTs, in particular the popular ‘Bored Ape Yacht Club’ collection that users already use as profile images.

Now, those who have purchased the NFT can officially verify and show off ownership with this new feature.

However, CoinDesk noted that instead of connecting directly to the blockchain, Twitter uses a third-party, such as OpenSea, to perform the verification.

This means that should a third-party marketplace go offline, the avatars on the social media platform could be affected, though Twitter has yet to comment on such a possibility.

Will other sites soon follow suit? It won’t be surprising if NFTs become ubiquitous on social media platforms soon.
