Gap Is Apparently Peeved At How Long Kanye West Is Taking To Design Yeezy Line
Back in June last year, Kanye West and Gap delighted streetwear fans by unveiling the first item of its 10-year, US$1 billion partnership: a blue puffer jacket. Since then, not much else has been revealed about the co-branded collection, which is said to feature outfits for men, women, and children.
In August, ex-Gap CEO Mickey Drexler told Yahoo Finance Live that he didn’t think the collaboration was a good idea, and that West was not “a corporate person.”
Nearly five months later, it appears that Drexler’s words could have held some truth. Two sources told the Financial Times that the retail brand was becoming increasingly frustrated with the collection’s slow pace.
The sources said that West, who has the final say over the capsule, faced difficulties in balancing the high level of quality he desires while staying within the affordable price range the clothing will be sold for.
According to Insider, to accommodate the rapper’s packed schedule, Gap even moved its support teams from Wyoming to Atlanta and Los Angeles, so that it would be easier for West to work on the capsule—though that hasn’t seemed to speed up the process.
Despite the troubles, the brand appears to be committed to working with West long-term.
In fact, as per Input, it recently announced that a Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga collection was in the works, though if the rumors are to be trusted, could see significant delays as well.
