Less than two months ago, Kanye West was putting the finishing touches on the logo for his YEEZY collaboration with Gap. This week, Gap surprised streetwear fans by unveiling the first item from this 10-year, US$1 billion partnership.
On June 8, which coincidentally was West’s birthday, floating projections of a blue puffer jacket were seen on buildings across New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
The ‘Cloud Jacket’, a puffy outwear piece in a bright blue, is currently available for pre-order on the site for US$200.
According to Fast Company, West’s eye for design and hype has seen record sales for other brand partnerships he’s had, such as YEEZY for Adidas. Since the collaboration with the sportswear retailer began in 2015, it has generated billions in revenue just from West’s sales alone.
While the partnership with Gap is rather different, considering the brand has struggled to retain market share over the past decade, it is hoped that West’s star power can pull customers back to its stores.
And if everything else designed by West is a good indicator to go by, we won’t be surprised if his Gap collaboration sells out in a quick minute, too.
