In the same spectrum as PANTONE’s 2022 Color of the Year, ‘Very Peri’, KitchenAid has introduced its own shade of purple to accentuate its year. The hue is ‘Beetroot’, named after the naturally vivid root vegetable.
There are Dwight Schrute’s unornamented descriptions of beets, and then there’s KitchenAid’s. The 103-year-old home appliance maker describes the color as a rich magenta with “a lush satin finish,” further asserting that the inherent vividness inspires optimism, experimentation, and self-expression in the kitchen.
At the same time, the shade keeps people rooted (pun intended) as it symbolizes “the richness found in our daily lives and reflects the vibrancy of everyday moments.”
“[Beetroot] turns heads and helps us see the ordinary through a new lens,” says KitchenAid. The company adds that the hue encourages the drive to “uproot the familiar” and “ignite the spark of creativity in the kitchen and beyond.”
It goes without saying that ‘Beetroot’ is now splashed onto a couple of KitchenAid products, namely the Artisan Series 5 Quart Tilt-Head Stand Mixer and the K400 Blender.
This isn’t a color people would normally incorporate into their homes, so KitchenAid—alongside Whirlpool Corporation’s Jessica McConnell—has created a mood board to help with interior enhancements embodying “restorative,” “expressive,” and “empowered” themes, depending on what you’re looking for. One palette entwines ‘Beetroot’ with pastels and charcoals, while another considers it as part of a rainbow. The third mood draws it back into its earthy element by mixing it with pinks and balancing the look with a pop of sunny yellow.
To commemorate the vibrant hue, the company has partnered with Stan’s Donuts to introduce a limited-edition ‘Beetroot’-hued doughnut. The 12-pack is sold at the chain’s Chicago stores and on Goldbelly.
“This energizing anduplifting hue invites adventurous cooks of all skill levels to make every day more vibrant by feeding their insatiable appetite for new experiences in the kitchen and beyond,” says Carley Smith, senior marketing manager for KitchenAid.
