Last week, during the Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled its new smartphone lineup: the new Galaxy S22.
Preorders for the smartphones have begun. In South Korea, the home of the electronics giant, a press release announcing this has also added a nugget of rather interesting information that wasn’t revealed before.
In partnershipwith blockchain-based Theta Labs, Samsung will be awarding a non-fungible token to users in the country who have pre-ordered either a new Galaxy S22 smartphone or a new S8 tablet.
Reportedly, this comes with a whole host of “ongoing membership benefits and privileges,” Mitch Liu, the CEO and co-founder of Theta Labs, tells Decrypt. Right now, it’s not clear what exactly this will entail.
The publication also reports that in 2019, Samsung NEXT, the firm’s venture arm, had invested in Theta Labs.
In order toget the tokens, buyers will need to sign up to ThetaDrop, Theta Network’s NFT marketplace, and download the Samsung Members app. Then, a code will allow for access to the token on ThetaDrop at the end of the preorder period, per InvestingCube.
Preorders for the new devices are currently open, and they will be officially released on February 25.
