Honda & Sony Are Opening An Electric Vehicle Company Together

Japanese giants Honda and Sony have announced plans to join forces for an electric vehicle company, with the “strategic alliance” scheduled to launch its first vehicle in 2025.

In a statement, Honda said the two companies will enter into “a joint development agreement and a joint venture agreement,” and the new firm is expected to be established within 2022.

While the forthcoming venture will “plan, design, develop, and sell” the vehicles, Honda will be responsible for manufacturing the first model at its factory plants.

On the other hand, Sony will develop a “mobility service platform” for the business. 

It remains uncertain what will happen with Sony’s Vision-S Concept car, which had been unveiled at CES last year. 

The automaker will bring its “development and application of imaging, sensing, telecommunication, network, and entertainment technologies” from its previous creation to the new project.

“The New Company will aim to stand at the forefront of innovation, evolution, and expansion of mobility around the world, by taking a broad and ambitious approach to creating value that exceeds the expectations and imagination of customers,” said Toshihiro Mibe, Director at Honda Motor.
