Russian Embassy In Ireland To Be Located On Rebranded ‘Independent Ukraine Road’
All councilors of the Dundrum region of Ireland, overseeing Orwell Road, have unanimously voted to change the name of the road that houses the Russian embassy to ‘Independent Ukraine Road’.
According to the Irish Times, the motion was inspired by countries, including Albania, that have changed the name of the street where Russian embassies are located.
Before the official change, which would be a display of Ireland’s solidarity with Ukraine, the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said it would be consulting the residents.
“It’s just a small sign of solidarity to the people of Ukraine, just to say the international committee are with them, the Irish community supports them, too,” explained Labour Councillor Peter O’Brien to The Journal.
At the moment, the council said it is looking into how to get the opinions of residents, who would be sent “correspondence to see whether they would favor it or not.”
