Over a week ago, Apple launched the all-new Mac Studio and Studio Display at its Peek Performance event, touting the setup as a way for creatives to build the “studio of their dreams.”
However, it seems that early adopters have run into problems with the Studio Display, which comes with a premium price tag starting from US$1,599.
The main issue appears to be with the monitor’s 12-megapixel webcam, with The Wall Street Journal’s Joanna Stern reporting that the image quality was worse off than the 14-inch MacBook Pro, two-megapixel LG monitor, and iPhone 11.
She said the webcam consistently made her look like “the star of a ‘90s home video” and that it “produced grainy and washed-out images.” Even more damning, it was missing so much detail it reminded her of the camera on an old BlackBerry.
Following the not-so-positive feedback, an Apple spokesperson said the company has “discovered an issue where the system isn’t behaving as expected” and will be “making improvements in a future software update.”
Hopefully, Apple will manage to drastically improve the quality of the webcam in its forthcoming update, or it may see even harsher feedback from users who’ve shelled out for the underwhelming purchase.
