It’s finally happened: Instagram is bringing back its reverse chronological feed for users, or at least an iteration of it.

Starting this week, users will be able to access feeds sorted both via reverse chronological order and by the platform’s algorithm.

While the latter will remain the network’s default setting, you’ll now be able to switch to a ‘Following’ view that shares posts in the order they were posted.

The algorithmic feed will be named ‘Favorites’, allowing users to select up to 50 close friends or content creators with a star icon that will be highlighted at the forefront of their home feeds.

“We’re always working on new ways to improve your Instagram experience,” the company said.

“We’ll continue to build features like Favorites and Following to give you more choice and control over what you see, and help make the time you spend on the app feel more intentional,” it added.

To those in the know, this change may not come as such a surprise, especially after comments from Adam Mosseri, the platform’s chief, during a 2021 Senate subcommittee investigation on how the app keeps young users safe.

At the time, as per CBS News, Mosseri had agreed that users should have the option of browsing with a chronological feed.

It seems the social media site has now made good on its promise by offering users a choice in how they view their feeds.
