A Knife You’ll Never Slice Your Hand With Is Finally Here

It’s the year 2022, and knives are oddly still being sold exposed in stores. If you’re one of those who gets unsettled by that sight, you’ll likely appreciate this reinvented paper cutter with a blade that never comes in contact with your fingers.
Nendo, the inspiringly minimalist Japanese design studio renowned for rethinking nondescript household objects, has introduced a letter opener that’s unusually curved and has a protective shell for an easy grip. As indicated in its name, ‘Nautilus’, this piece of 3D-printed stationery draws from the natural design of mollusks to tuck the blade away.

Conceptualized by the firm’s Oki Sato, the resin letter opener is rounded with a hole in the center for your fingers to rest comfortably on its handle.
At the center is a slot with just enough room for an envelope to be inserted to be sliced open.

The blade is located at the tip of the 3D-printed “seashell,” keeping it out of clumsy hands. Just slide it down the edge of an envelope and your mail will be ready to be read!

Only thing, this cutter just works on paper, so you’ll still have to be careful in the kitchen with your regular knives.
