It’s time to bring back family game nights. Internet game sensation Wordle is entering the real world via a board game called Wordle: The Party Game.
Hasbro Gaming Senior Vice President and Gaming Manager Adam Biehl told CNN Business that the brand was inspired by avid people have been about posting their results online. The toymaker approached the New York Times, which famously bought the game, and proposed a way to give fans real-time bragging rights.
If you’re concerned that you’ll be spending money on a Scrabble rebranding, don’t be. The board game works exactly as it does online.
Each round will have a host to select a five-letter word, and the rest of the group will have to guess it by writing their answers on a card. When a correct letter is placed in the correct or incorrect location, the host can mark it with green and yellow tiles. Like in the real game, players will only have six chances to guess the word.
According to the rules, there are four ways to play the game: fast, timed, teams, and classic. The most interesting addition is teams, where your party can be split in two to guess the word before your opponent does.
The game includes dry-erase markers, partitions to stop cheaters, and a list of words compiled by the Times.
