US Postal Service Debuts Stamps Harking Back To American Muscle Cars Of Old

Next month, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will be introducing a new series of stamps to “commemorate the heyday of the pony car era,” featuring five of the most famous American muscle cars of the 60s and 70s in a drive down memory lane.

Vehicles gracing the ‘Pony Cars Forever’ stamps include the Ford Mustang Boss, Chevrolet Camaro, AMC Javelin SST, Dodge Challenger, and Mercury Cougar; all of which will be first issued at the Great American Stamp Show on August 25, 2022. 

At the turn of the 1960s, the country welcomed the presence of a new breed of cars on the roads, pony cars quickly became an obsession, with younger drivers drawn towards the youthful coupes and convertibles that were set apart from what their parents drove. 

As per the USPS, during the energy crisis of the 1970s, sales of these pony cars began to decline,  though the trend experienced a resurgence towards the end of the decade, having appeared in many pop-culture films. 

Robb Report noted that these stamps will be part of the ‘Forever’ series, which means that although they will each retail at 60 cents, they can be used to mail a one-ounce letter at any point in the future, even if postage prices have increased. A pretty good deal, no? Meanwhile, prices of cars are only getting steeper.
