Wish to brighten up a space enthusiast’s day? How about sending them snail mail bedecked with an literally sunny stamp? The US Postal Service (USPS) is making this possible with its 2021 edition of timeless stamps as part of a tie-up with NASA.
Among a selection of new USPS Forever Stamps are a 20-piece set of 10 striking sun images captured through NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). The Sun Science series, designed by art director Antonio Alcalá, honors NASA’s ongoing mission to understand Earth’s nearest star.
The vibrant hues depicted aren’t true colors emitted by the sun. Rather, the images have been colorized to express various wavelengths of light and phenomena, such as solar flares, sunspots, and coronal loops.
Unlike regular stamps, the USPS’ Forever Stamps can be used perpetually since they are non-denominational, according to Slashgear. This means they will always be valid as First Class postage in spite of any changes in postal rate.
