Despite supersonic success with its PlayStation 5, it seems like Sony is currently being slapped with a new class-action lawsuit that claims it knowingly hid defects in its console.
The plaintiff,Christina Trejo, brought the complaint to an Illinois court on July 12. She alleges that an issue in the hardware of the PS5 is causing it to spontaneously shut down and result in losses in in-game progress. She also claims that Sony had been aware of the problem due to numerous complaints online and warranty requests.
Still, after numerous complaints from users, Trejo asserts nothing has been done to rectify the issue, and Sony has continued to market and sell the PS5s in their problematic state.
The lawsuit states that had they been alerted of the issue, Trejo and others would most likely not have made bought the console.
The PS5 flaw will allegedly cause the console to shut off mid-game, leaving players to lose progress and in-game saves. The suit is seeking reparations for damages created due to Sony’s negligence to the problem.
If Trejo does succeed in court, it would mean that the problem runs a lot deeper than suspected as issues like this are usually solved through system software updates.
Sony has been at the center of a few recent scandals, from the chip shortage that left countless fighting tooth and nail to get their hands on gaming units to a stick drift issue on its controllers.
