Taking a leaf-shaped block from the book of Hasbro’s 3D-printing action figure service, LEGO has opened a beta version of its Minifigure Factory online, enabling builders to create tiny brick versions of themselves without having to visit the physical stores.
First available in the US, the online Minifigure Factory allows you to personalize a minifig with a selection of facial features and hairstyles. The most freedom, however, comes from the torso designs, where you’ll be able to pick from a variety of accessories, prints, patterns, stickers, and ready-made outfits, and tweak them to match your style and personality.
You could even add your own text and symbols to the outfits, as well as adjust the font and position. Currently, the customizer accepts text in English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Spanish, and Ukrainian languages.
The line is drawn at third-party logos, names, and trademarks, however. LEGO will also block out profanities and hate speech.
Since the tool remains in beta mode, it’s admittedly not perfect yet. Accordingly, the assortment of face prints and hairstyles isn’t as diverse as the options available in-store. But more notably, sales are limited to one minifig per household so more fans can get hold of their plastic mini-mes during this initial launch.
The customized minifigs are going for US$11.99. You can try out the tool here.
