This Standing Desk Has Its Own Desktop Display Built Into Its Surface
If you’re one to bemoan the proliferation of the Internet of Things—that is, the fact that now refrigerators, construction materials, and even doorbells come packed with technology—Lumina’s latest offering may be the last thing you’d want.
For others, especially those who value convenience and enjoy having screens incorporated onto every surface, it’s perfect. The Lumina Desk, a motorized standing workstation, now comes with a 24-inch OLED embedded into its surface. And unlike a regular monitor, it’s completely invisible when not in use.
However, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to use the display as a secondary monitor for your laptop or computer, considering it runs on its own Lumina Operating System that allows users to access a collection of applications.
It’s important to note that the screen is not a touchscreen, meaning the 60 hz refresh rate, 1200 nits max brightness display will just show information passively without input.
According to Gizmodo, users can pull up Google Calendar, Twitter, and Slack right on the desk, with an application that’s compatible with both Windows and MacOS. Plus, the brand will offer an SDK for developers to design custom applications just for the table.
Of course, with a desk that has a built-in OLED screen, you’d expect it to come packed with other high-tech features. The Lumina comprises six USB-C sockets and power outlets, a wide storage compartment for wires and chargers, and two wireless charging pads within the surface of the desk.
The company has placed an interesting emphasis on health, with the desk equipped with timers to remind you to stand if you’re been sitting for too long, reminders for breaks, and the option to schedule the exact time at which your table will turn from a sitting desk to a standing one.
While the Lumina Desk isn’t up for pre-orders just yet, it’s safe to assume it’ll cost a hefty chunk of change. TechRadar predicts it will retail around the US$1,000 mark. For more information, head here.
