TAG Heuer x Porsche Create Watch That Puts Car Stats & Controls On Your Wrist
Steering beyond the capabilities of a regular smartwatch, TAG Heuer and Porsche have co-created a watch that not only tells the time but also lets you control your car from your wrist.
The TAG Heuer Connected Calibre E-Porsche Edition uses Porsche’s hot-selling electric car, the new Taycan, as inspiration, borrowing motifs like the vehicle’s icy blue, which runs through the face of the timepiece and its strap.
It also has a 45mm case made from Grade 2 titanium and a flat sapphire crystal that protects the OLED display underneath.
The face of the watch has been dubbed the ‘Circuit’, in honor of the circuit boards that run the watch and racing circuits.
Perhaps its most unique feature is its ability to tell you your car’s vitals. You can view your vehicle’s mileage, temperature, gas, and battery levels, so you won’t have to run down to your car to check if it’s fully charged as often.
There is also a display that can lead you to the MyPorsche app, where you can remotely control some areas of your car from the watch itself. As of right now, you will only be able to control heating and air-conditioning. But compared to other watches that can’t even do that that’s still pretty impressive.
TAG Heuer describes the watch as an “extension of your sports car.”
The gadget is able to last a full day on one charge. It also has a sensor to detect your heart rate, Bluetooth capabilities, and, through its Wear2 system by Google, can access other apps.
Porsche models that can be used with the watch include the Panamera (G2), the Cayenne (ED II), the 911, the Macan, and the 718, among others.
This will be the second collaboration between the brands after the Carrera Chronograph was released last year.
The Connected Calibre E4-Porsche Edition is retailing for US$2,750.
