As they say, laughter is the best medicine—though this particular treatment that comes at the expense of Mehmet Oz would not be something he’d endorse. The celebrity heart surgeon, who’s running for Republican Senate in Pennsylvania, has had his campaign sign creatively adjusted by an anti-fan.
Piggybacking on the fame he’s accumulated, Dr Oz has reused the very same logo from his daytime talk show for his candidacy, with the design tweaked slightly to incorporate “U.S. Senate.” While the branding is nearly identical, its new context is giving detractors some ideas.
One Pennsylvanian resident seemingly asked for three signs to add to their yard, then rotated the other two to form the message: “NO ON OZ.”
Turns out, three rights make a wrong.
"hello, dr. oz campaign? i'd like THREE yard signs."
The display might be inspired by a visual from Oz’s campaign trail of a woman holding up a poster reading “NO” instead of “OZ,” which has led internet users to believe that the Pennsylvania Senate candidate was being trolled right under his nose. However, the photo has been proven to be digitally manipulated.
Oz is embracing his past as a cardiothoracic surgeon for his campaign bid by injecting medical metaphors into his website. For one, he describes feeling driven to join politics because “America needs a Conservative Republican to cure what’s wrong with Washington.”
“America’s heartbeat is in a code red in need of a defibrillator to shock it back to life,” his campaign describes.
“Many of us feel like we’re in the adjacent operating room, armed with insights and already scrubbed up but reluctant to leave our quiet, serene setting for the chaos next door. But for me, stepping into the political arena is the right thing to do.”
