The Dr Oz Show is returning, though not in the way one might expect. Mehmet Oz, the celebrity heart surgeon whose face was synonymous with the daytime talk show, is running for Republican Senate in Pennsylvania, and he’s taking the legacy of the long-running series with him.
The new Dr Oz for Senate logo, as uncovered by Brand New, is a carbon copy of the show’s emblem, save for the red and blue paint job, some space adjustments, plus the “US Senate” branding.
“I’m running for US Senate in Pennsylvania because America needs a Conservative Republican to cure what’s wrong with Washington,” Oz details on his campaign website. True to his personal brand as a health advocate, he also describes that “America’s heart is in a code red” and that it requires “a defibrillator to shock it back to life.”
The Associated Press reports that Oz has been in his element during his campaign trail, carrying his speech without a teleprompter or notes during one event and even checking an audience member’s blood pressure. He later held an autograph-signing session and posed for photos for 45 minutes.
Oz named his resilience in show business as a mark for the extent he’d go to protect his people.
The Dr Oz Show, he said, “had tremendous success. A hundred countries… The shows have 10 Emmy Awards, so I’m proud of what we achieved.” However, he stressed that “I had to fight hard for you and you and you and you.”
“What’s important is, when your audience is in a predicament, will you go to war for them? Will you become a porcupine and fight back and do what’s right, even if it has mortal risks to you? And I did, and I have the scars to prove it,” Oz proclaimed.
