It’s Official: Apple’s iPhones Overtake Androids As Most-Used In The US

A moment of silence for Android. It’s finally happened—for the first time, there are more iPhone users in the United States than any other brand of smartphone. 

The Financial Times broke the story, reporting that Apple recently overtook the entire range of Android devices to claim 50% of the market, which is by far the highest-ever percentage the brand has achieved stateside. 

According to data seen by iMore, the landmark shift occurred in Q2 2022, with the other half of the market share shared among 150 smartphones running on Android, mostly comprising of Samsung and Lenovo models. 

An analyst at CCS Insight, Ben Wood, noted that Apple’s gain over Android didn’t happen quickly, but rather was more of a “slow burn” with the firm steadily gaining more share every year. 

Jeff Fieldhack, a research director at Counterpoint, suggested that this milestone could be “replicated in other affluent countries” worldwide, with Apple’s sales showing no signs of slowing down. 

With Apple’s forthcoming event just around the corner, this is no doubt the perfect time for the company to make the leap forward, and most likely see more customers switch to its promising iPhone 14 lineup and iOS 16 update.
